I just started reading my book for the college class I am currently enrolled in. The book is called Made For Paradise By, Dr. Patricia Hart Terry Purchase Book Here. I barely finished reading the introduction and got a couple pages into the first chapter. Couple things that made me think…….
- When it comes down to it, if you have every other resource in the world and don’t have health, what do you have? This made me set and think for a minute. Do I honestly think about, or even care what I am about to put in my mouth and the affects it will have on the inside of my body? Do I take enough time to get enough exercise? It’s not all about being skinny or looking good, yes that’s a great perk, but truthfully it is about being healthy and taking care of the body God has given us. In fact the Bible tells us our bodies are not our own, they are, in fact, the temple of the Holy Spirit (Ramans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 6:19).
- In her introduction Dr. Patricia shared with us the Truth of Gods Word. In the beginning God provided His creation with the basic principals for healthy living, and those principles are healthy eating, physical activity, and rest. Food for sustenance, activity for regulation, and rest for restoration Patricia states these are good gifts from God, given to us in the beginning to work with our body’s design.
- Dr. Patricia has studied nutrition and life for 31 years– through earning a bachelor’s degree, a master’s and a doctorate and beyond. She stated that she has become more and more convinced that we really are what we eat, do, and think.
This statement brought to mind of what I tell my husband and girls, whenever a subject like this comes up in our home, Garbage in Garbage out I always say. Healthy living does not have to be just about food, it can be in any area of our lives. If we listen to garbage music with a carnal view points we will think carnally instead of spiritually, if we watch garbage TV shows it will leave a negitive impact on our attitudes and minds, if we hang out with the wrong crowd we will more than likely pick up their bad habits and be guilty by association. This list can continue to go on and on, so I Hope you get my point. One important lesson I learned when I first became a Christian in my adult life is the more spiritual things I take in, the more spirit minded I will become. Paul teaches us in Philippians 4:8-9 “To think upon things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, things of excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things!” Paul continues to teach us in the following verse (9) that if we put these things into practice that God’s Peace will be with us. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t want anything other than Gods Peace over ruling my body and soul, in fact this is what most of the world in craving, PEACE! We must put into action heavenly minded thinking, if we want God’s peace in our lives! While we are busy blending in with the world we are missing out on the transformation God has in store for us. God will transform your entire life if you feed your bodies and minds spiritual things.
Jesus tells us, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” Most of us are starving and our bodies are aching for something more, something to fulfill us from the inside. But we can’t seem to get our thirst quenched, we always seem to be lacking, yearning, and desiring for more of something that never gets the job done, something that never gets us to where we want to be. Could it be that Jesus is right? Filling ourselves with worldliness will always leave us starving with an appetite that can never be satisfied. We must fill our minds, our children, our families, our homes, our whole LIVES with spiritual food and like Jesus said it is The Word Of God.
It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:8
